TWO of Meirionnydd’s foremost female politicians have been elected to prominent positions with the county council.
Councillor Beth Lawton representing Bryncrug and Llanfihangel has been elected to chair the Services Scrutiny Committee and Tywyn councillor Anne Lloyd-Jones will oversee the Planning Committee.
Cllr Lawton, who is an governor for Craig Y Deryn will also serve as vice chair of the Special Educational Needs Joint Committee for Anglesey and Gwynedd.
Both women are Independent members on Gwynedd Council.
Speaking of her achievement, Cllr Lloyd-Jones said: “I am delighted and honoured to be have been elected as chairman of the Planning Committee, a job which will certainly be challenging.
“My thanks to the previous chairman councillor Mike Sol Owen from Pwllheli for his work during the past two years.”
Pictured at the opening ceremony of Tywyn’s new Police/Fire Station Cllr Lawton noted that “it is good to see an investment made in Tywyn as opposed to the closures we see all too often”.
