Pink flamingoes to stage New Year’s Day walk

By Antony Gedge in Health

OVER 20 charity fundraisers dressed as flamingoes will join a New Year’s Day trek from Talsarn to Aberystwyth to raise money for a new chemotherapy unit for Bronglais Hospital.

Twenty-two women will take part in at least a part of the 20-mile walk and organiser Carole Price said the group were already reconsidering their £2,000 target after getting halfway to the total in just a few days.

Carole, who said several members of the team, including herself, had received treatment at Bronglais Hospital’s current chemotherapy unit and were eager to help the £1m fundraising appeal for a new unit.

She said: “I wanted to raise money for the unit to express my gratitude for the outstanding care and support that the team of doctors and nurses provided during my treatment for ovarian cancer in 2013.

“The facilities in the chemotherapy unit are in need of updating and I felt that it was appropriate that any donations received went directly towards this fund.

“As I wanted to raise as much money as possible, I knew that my challenge had to be extreme and walking from my home to the chemotherapy unit seemed fitting."

Anyone who would like to donate to the fundraising effort can do so by visiting the group’s Just Giving page at Ar Dramp Dros Driniaeth/Trekking for Treatment, or by texting TRAM49 £5 to 70070. Individual team members will also have sponsorship forms.
