Seasiders add two new strikers

ABERYSTWYTH Town manager Matthew Bishop has strengthened his squad with the addition of two new strikers in the transfer window.

The Club has confirmed that striker Jon Owen has joined the Seasiders this week from Welsh Premier rivals Llandudno, along with the experienced Lee Healey from Cymru Alliance club Holywell Town.

Owen, 24, spent six years with Bangor City, but made all his 24 appearances from the bench. He signed for his home town club Porthmadog in October 2013, but spent the following season with Caersws, before returning to the Welsh Premier League with Rhyl in May 2015.

Owen was the joint top-scorer for the Lillies in 2015/16, before his move to Llandudno in June 2016. He has scored 13 goals from his 46 (+29) Welsh Premer appearances to date

"We can confirm that highly-rated striker Jon Owen is the next player to join the Black and Greens’ push for the Top Six, arriving today from Llandudno," said a club statement.

"His fantastic energy on the pitch make Jon an exciting player to watch, and if he fulfills his promise Black and Green supporters are in for a treat."

Meanwhile 30 year old Healey is known for his no-nonsense style of play, and he has impressed against Aber on a number of previous occasions, most recently for the Wellmen in the Welsh Cup tie in December.

The Merseyside-based striker has previously played Welsh Premier for Gap Connah’s Quay, Bangor City, and Cefn Driuds, scoring an impressive total of 16 goals from 24 (+11) appearances, winning the Welsh Premier Player of the Month Award in October 2014.

He has also played for Ashville, Congleton Town and Droylsden in the English system.

Aberystwyth Town’s first new signing of the January transfer window was midfielder Elliot Scotcher from Merthyr Town.

The 22-year-old, who hails from Pembrokeshire, spent time with Ipswich Town and Cardiff City as a youngster, before enrolling at UWIC and becoming a key figure ascent of the Cardiff students from the Welsh League Division Three to the Welsh Premier League.

Following his graduation, Scotcher trialled with Newport County, before signing for the Martyrs in the summer of 2015.

Meanwhile midfielder Joe Clarke has left the Seasiders due to the lengthy travelling commitments from his South Wales home.

He is has transferred to Llanelli, for whom he played as a Youth team player between 2008 and 2011.

The Seasiders have also extended their best wishes to striker to Blake Davies, who returned to his host club Forest Green Rovers, following a loan period at Park Avenue.

Goalkeeper Chris Mullock has meanwhile signed for the Seasiders on a permanent basis following his successful loan spell from Welsh Premier League leaders The New Saints.

Aberystwyth have also secured the services of central defender Ryan Wollacott and striker Luke Borrelli on contract until the end of the 2017/8 season.
