Mums hit out over dog mess

By Cambrian News reporter in Environment

TWO Cardigan mums are pleading for dog owners in the area to pick up the mess their dogs leave behind.

Lisa Jones and Amy Thomas and their children are regular users of the Wetlands Trail, the path located between Cardigan cattle mart and the Welsh Wildlife Centre in Cilgerran.

“I enjoy running along the path” said mother-of-two Amy Thomas. “But rather than look at the scenery you are constantly looking at the floor to dodge the dog mess and dog owners need to be responsible.”

“Some people will collect the dog mess but then leave the poo bags on branches of the trees! Some owners also let their dogs off the leads and the dogs run ahead of them and therefore they don’t know if they’ve done a mess or not. ”

Lisa Jones regularly takes her children on scooters and bikes to the centre and finds that Cardigan town also has an issue with dog mess.

Lisa said: “We go along that path at least once a week and have done so for years. But more often than not, we return home with dog mess on the scooters or on the tyres of the bikes. Wheelchair users also can’t dodge the mess, it’s just not right. I also walk the children through town to get to school and from Castle Street to the Strand, there’s dog mess everywhere.”
