THE Ffestiniog Palliative Care Service which works across the region to provide end-of-life care is looking forward to moving to a new home.
The Palliative Care Team is a multidisciplinary team which works closely with GPs, district nurses, hospital teams and other health professionals to enhance care for patients living with cancer and other life threatening illnesses, their families and carers.
The South Meirionnydd team consists of dedicated clinical nurse specialists, Hospice at Home nurses and healthcare support workers who deliver a wide range of care and treatment to patients in their own home including financial advice, psychological support and pain management.
When the new health centre in Blaenau Ffestiniog opens in September, the Palliative Care Team will be provided with a base from which to work and the services provided in Blaenau Ffestiniog will increase.
Dr Helen Mitchell, consultant in palliative medicine said: “We’re excited about the opportunities the new centre in Blaenau Ffestiniog will offer.
“This will give us the opportunity to increase services provided locally for instance a monthly consultant clinic in Blaenau so that patients don’t have to travel to Bangor and a nurse-led drop-in clinic where support can be provided to patients and their families."
