COLEG Meirion-Dwyfor successfully secured £10.3m in Welsh Assembly Government funding last summer to ex-pand its Glynllifon site and create an innovative Education Village. Last week Caernarfon MP Hywel Williams and Elin Jones AM, minister for rural affairs, visited Glynllifon to see how the project was progressing.

College principal Dr Ian J Rees said: “Glynllifon’s unique setting and its land-based resources have always held potential for further expansion that would benefit the learn-ers and the local economy. The sum of £10.3m will allow us to deliver Phases 1 and 2 of the PA@G (Pentref Addysg @ Glynllifon) project. We will provide new and enhanced, state-of-the-art learning resources for our learners.”

“The new Learning Village is an exciting development for the college, and it is good to see that we are progressing well with the work. Our current resources are also being updated, with our Glanrafon Hostel in the process of being fully refurbished for residential students. The new development has been welcomed locally, and it was a pleasure to show the progress and plans to local MP Hywel Williams and Elin Jones, the minister for rural affairs.”

The new Learning Village will be a centre where a number of education and training providers can work together to ensure the best provision for learners, business and also the local economy.

Ms Jones said: “I’m glad to see that the substantial funding for this project is already beginning to show results. I hope that once the construction work is completed, students at Glynllifon will be able to take full advantage of the new facilities on offer”.

Hywel Williams MP said: “I’m very pleased to welcome these exciting developments at Glynllifon, and to see that they are progressing well. The new resources will no doubt be of great benefit to the students locally.”
