Quiz extravaganza in aid of Eisteddfod

If quizzes are up your street, look no further than the Ceredigion quiz extravaganza to be held at six different locations around the county on Friday, 29 January, to raise money for the Urdd National Eisteddfod, Ceredigion 2010.

Teams will be competing against each other with results phoned through to one location at half time and at the end of the quiz. The overall winning team will win tickets to the Urdd National Eisteddfod, to be held in Llanerchaeron between 31 May and 5 June this year.

Rhian Dafydd, chair of the Urdd National Eisteddfod, Ceredigion 2010’s publicity committee is one of the event’s organisers. She said: “We thought the quiz was a great idea to generate publicity for the Eisteddfod as well as raise funds. It will be a great night out for everyone and, while some will take it very seriously, others will come along just to be part of it. We’ve got six experienced quizmasters and mistresses who are sure to make the evening a great success and James Thomas has set a quiz which is sure to have a wide appeal.

“I find it difficult to believe that we’re already into 2010 and the Eisteddfod will be taking place in no time.

“The support around Ceredigion is fantastic and everyone’s gearing up for a great event.”

To register a team, do so before 25 January by emailing Nia Davies on niawyn@maesglas50.freeserve.co.uk and include the number of people in the team (no more than five), its name and which location you will be attending. There will be a charge of £2 per head to be paid on the evening.

The six locations are: Aberaeron Rugby Club, Penrhyncoch Football Club, the Talbot, Tregaron, the Fishers, Cellan, Ffostrastol Arms, Llandysul and Caffi Emlyn, Tanygroes, Cardigan.

• Over the past three years, a variety of gifts, novelties and keepsakes have been produced to raise money for the Eisteddfod. Their success means that stocks are running low, so now is the last chance to grab yourself a piece of Ceredigion history.

Branded Ceredigion 2010, the last remaining t-shirts, jumpers as well as smaller gifts like rugby balls and pencils are available to buy on the Urdd’s website.
