Tregaron miss out in semis
Tregaron (78 for 8) lost to Dolgellau (79 for 4) by 6 wkts
DOLGELLAU are through to the final of the West Wales Conference 20/20 tournament after they beat Tregaron by six wickets in their semi-final last Sunday.
Dolgellau scored 79 for 4 in reply to their 78 for 8.
The final will be played this Sunday, 5 September, when Dolgellau will play Aberystwyth University Commoners at Y Geufron in Aberystwyth, 2.30pm start.
Tregaron were asked to bat first on what proved to be a very unpredictable batting strip at the school playing fields. They lost a wicket to the second ball of the match when Llion Jones was caught by Dion Jones, the bowler being Tom Slattery, and continued to 26 for 3 with Llyr Hughes making 19 of the first 20 runs.
Hughes was bowled by captain Phil Leeds, and Dylan Garner was bowled by Slattery for 7. Alun Hughes and skipper Nigel Salmon added 22, before both were dismissed. Salmon was bowled by Scott Thomas for 17 and Hughes caught by Glyn Tapp from Mark Edmondson’s slow bowling.
Edmondson proceeded to take three more wickets as he finished with 4 for 14 from his four over allowance, bowling Barri Wiliams, having Gethin Jones caught by Thomas, and having Arthur Newton caught and bowled as Tregaron closed on 78 for 8. Francis Moore-Collier, 10 and Richard Moore-Collier, 6 were the not out batsmen.
To go with Edmondson’s figures of 4 for 14, Slattery pocketed 2 for 14, Leeds 1 for 11 and Thomas 1 for 9.
Dolgellau lost their first wicket at 31 in the 8th over after Tapp and Dion Jones had opened the batting.
Tapp had made 18 with a six until he was well-caught on the boundary by Alun Hughes off Garner’s bowling, while 5 runs later Jones was also bowled by spinner Llyr Hughes for 12 runs.
At 45 Thomas was caught by Rhodri Morgan off Richard Moore-Collier and at 60 runs Danny Harris gave Morgan his second catch this time off Llyr Hughes, to leave it at 60 for 4.
Number three batsman Edmondson made the day’s top score, being unbeaten on 26 runs, with 2 fours and Leeds stayed with him on 3 not out as Dolgellau triumphed by six wickets with 3.1 overs to spare.
Llyr Hughes claimed 2 for 17 from his 4 overs, Garner took 1 for 22 and Moore-Collier 1 for 9 both from 4 overs while Newton gave away 15 runs from his 4 overs and Alun Hughes 9 runs from 5 balls.
