Aber seconds beat Tywyn in the drizzle

Aberystwyth 2nd XI (79-6 wkts) beat Tywyn (78 all out)

HAVING battled their way through the Machynlleth Carnival, the Tywyn team were happy to play through the drizzly conditions that descended on Aberystwyth last Saturday.

Sadly, they might have regretted their decision when Rowan Dunbabin (3-6), the home team’s spin bowler, took three early wickets.

Recovery came in the form of Gwyndaf Roberts who struck a fine 43, though he gained little support from his team mates as Philip Abraham (4-15) whittled his way through the rest of the innings, 78 all out.

Aberystwyth’s openers, Aled Richards and Grayson John made steady progress before both were dismissed by Tywyn’s spinners.

Anthony Burrell soon followed, leaving the home team in a parlous state at 22 for 3.

Emlyn Mainwearing, batting higher up the order than ever before, soon lost his off stump to Ed Hughes but Sojan Varghese and Vinod Mathew steadied the innings and took the score to within striking rate of the target before Vinod was run out.

Tomos Williams soon followed but Nat Burrell remained calm as the winning runs were struck.

Sojan Varghese finished on 26 not out and Nat Burrell 7 not out.
