McPhee sees off the competition

29 July 2010

Aberaeron (51 all out) lost to

Rhayader (52-1) by 9 wickets

DYLAN McPhee the bowler took centre stage as his Rhayader side continued their quest for the West Wales Conference title.

On an afternoon when rain threatened McPhee wasted little time in seeing off a dispirited Aberaeron with a 7-19 haul that left the West Walians in tatters.

Thankful only for the contribution of former Rhayader all-rounder Nathan Bennett (34) who briefly threatened to put a spoke in Rhayader’s efforts with a typically hard-hitting innings including two sixes and four fours as Aber were shot out for 51.

In reply McPhee could not repeat his bowling heroics being dismissed second ball by a jubilant Bennett.

That was the extent of Aberaerons joy as Paul Rowe (21no) and Carwyn Jenkins (21no) saw Rhayader home to another priceless victory, in under 12 overs.

Rhayader spokesman, Paul Rowe said: “Dylan was unplayable today managing to extract good bounce from the track but was supported by some excellent catching.

“No-one is complaining about the ease of victory and we move on to the next game as we know it will become much tougher.”

Rhayader’s next challenge comes from improving Llandovery.

There was disappointment for Aberystwyth, when their clash against neighbours UWA Commoners was abandoned without a ball bowled.

It was also tough-going for the batsmen at Tregaron, who crashed to 82 all out in the six-wicket defeat against Llandovery.

For Tregaron, only Martin Jones 18 and Owen Roberts 17 made headway against a bowling attack spearheaded by John Rhys Davies 6-28. Alan Walker 37 not out guided Llandovery to victory.
