Bow Street punish strugglers

03 March 2010

Spar Mid Wales League

Llanfyllin 0

Bow Street 8

GAVIN Allen and Tim Turner were the chief destroyers for Bow Street as they scored six goals between them in an eight-goal demolition of Llanfyllin.
Struggling Llanfyllin, who lost 14-0 to Penparcau only a week earlier, kept the game goalless for 20 minutes, despite Allen setting up Dean Evans and Turner with decent chances to score first.
At the other end, Owain James stepped in-between the sticks for the second time this season after the late withdrawal of Dave Gregory, and had to pay close attention in the early stages as Llanfyllin forced a number of early corners.
However, the inevitable breakthrough came when Evans was brought down in the box and he slotted home with the resulting penalty.
This triggered a further three goals in five minutes which put an end to the game as a contest as Turner headed home a brilliant Evans cross, and then Allen scored with two cool finishes from six yards out.
The second half was a largely scrappy affair, but with Street weighing in with the occasional passage of crisp passing they were always going to build upon their insurmountable lead.
Allen set Turner up for his second early in the second half and then Nicky Smith produced the cross of the day for Allen to complete a hat-trick on his full debut.
Turner looked as though he had matched Allen’s feat with a fine header, but Allen pounced on the goal-line to score for good measure.
Gaz Hughes, in a rare start, capped a fine display with a curling right-footed shot that glided into the top corner and sealed a big away win for Street, who remain in sight of the leaders in a fascinating title race.
Street manager Huw Bates said: “I think after Penparcau’s victory over Llanfyllin last week there was a bit of pressure on us today to emulate a similar scoreline.
“I think Gav and Tim will be debating the seventh goal for many years to come, but whatever happens there’s no doubt that they were both unstoppable today.”
Bates was also keen to praise Llanfyllin for the way in which they dealt with a nasty injury to Street midfielder Darren Middleton.
“Daz came off on the half hour mark with a nasty gash to his cheek and the Llanfyllin chairman immediately offered to take him to Welshpool hospital and back, an offer which was gratefully accepted. I would like to express my gratitude to Llanfyllin on behalf of Darren and the whole of Bow Street FC for this incredibly kind gesture.”.

BOW STREET: O James, A Jones (S Davies 75), G Hughes, P James, S Antoniazzi, T Turner, D Middleton (M Jones 31), D Evans (G Jones 65), G Allen, P Evans, N Smith.
