PENRHYNCOCH saw their hopes of making further progress in the Cymru Alliance Cup shattered as they were sent crashing out with a heavy defeat at Flint.
The Ceredigion side’s defence was punished against a fired-up Flint outfit, determined to stay on track for the league and cup double.
Shaun Beck scored a hat-trick and missed a penalty for the home side, while Aled Dawson scored a double, and Paul Williams also got onto the scoresheet.
Penrhyn replied through a Mark Egan penalty, and manager Kevin Jenkins felt that the final scoreline had probably flattered the hosts.
Jenkins said: “Flint deserved to go through to the semi-finals, but the final scoreline did not reflect the match to be fair, and their first two goals were scored when we were on top.
“We now have two home games in the space of five days and we will definitely be up for the challenge.”
Despite being without Llyr Hughes, Elwyn Edwards and Richard Evans, Penrhyn gave the hosts a run for their money, and it was against the run of play that Aled Dawson and Shaun Beck opened the scoring.
The all-important third goal came after 55 minutes, and despite Penrhyn replying through Egan’s penalty, the hosts scored three late on to finish the visitors off.
Penrhyn have 12 league games left to secure Cymru Alliance status and Kevin Jenkins’ side will turn their attentions back to maintaining a top six position when they host fifth-placed Denbigh Town this weekend.
With up to eight clubs set to be relegated from the Welsh Premier League into the Cymru Alliance at the end of the season, Penrhyn need to finish in a strong position to stay at this level.
