TWO Chris Poyntz goals earned Aberystwyth University a welcome win over Llansantffraid Village to cement their mid-table position in the Spar Mid Wales League last weekend.
It proved a tough affair against the well-marshalled visitors, but the students had carved out an interval lead with Poyntz converting Huw Birkhead’s cross.
Llansantffraid hit back after the break through a headed goal by Wayne Austin, after an initial effort had come back off the crossbar, and Ben Oakley added their second goal with a fine strike following a corner.
However, the University were not to be denied, with Arwel Jones finishing from sub Guto Davies’ cross, following a fine move, before Poyntz netted his second goal to seal three points.
The students are again at home on Saturday, but face a tough prospect against Bow Street as they bid to reel off a third straight win.
The Students had returned to winning ways with a 4-1 win at struggling Caersws Reserves on Monday night.
After a disappointing home defeat against Dolgellau, doubles from Chris Poyntz and Arwel Jones sealed a welcome away success, with Simon Jones netting for the Bluebirds.
