Crowley wins auto-test

LAMPETER and District Motor Club recently staged the second round of the D&C Rallying-backed 2010 Auto-test Championship at the Bont tarmac stages venue in Pontrhydyfendigaid, and the event produced some thrilling rallying action.
The event proved a massive hit, with a strong entry of 26 drivers entered, just four short of the maximum allowed under MSA rules. The day saw the competitors tackle four loops of the bottom half of the track with a very technical loop around the car park, which almost certainly cost Chris Palmer (CP Electrics) the win after an infringement around a barrel. However, Palmer still finished 2nd overall in his Escort Mk2, just 17 points behind overall winner, Sean Crowley, in a Peugeot 205.
Gavin Perry finished in third place overall, a further 16 points adrift of Palmer, whilst fourth overall was taken by Michael Bailey (Tonto), who was sharing a Rover 200 with Lee Plant and Justin Jones.
Luckily for Tonto he crossed the finish on the final run of the day, having cracked the gearbox casing, and losing oil bought the Rover home just five points short of the final podium position behind Perry.
