Police appeal after alleged train assault
DETECTIVES are investigating an alleged sexual assault on board the Aberystwyth to Shrewsbury train on Thursday evening.
The incident is alleged to have taken place between Caersws and Machynlleth.
British Transport Police (BTP) officers investigating an alleged sexual assault on board a train between Caersws and Machynlleth rail stations are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
British Transport Police received a report that between 8.15pm and 8.45pm on Thursday 12 August, a male passenger on the 17.30pm Shrewsbury-Aberystwyth service sat next to and began harassing a 24-year-old female passenger.
The man also made inappropriate comments towards the woman who at first tried to ignore him before leaving the carriage and reporting the man’s behaviour to a member of train staff.
PC Andy Chadwick said: “BTP officers are treating this incident, which took place as the train travelled between Caersws and Machynlleth rail stations, as a sexual assault and I would urge anyone who witnessed what happened to contact police.
“It may be that you have vital information which could assist our investigation.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, quoting incident number 605 of 12/08/2010, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
