Ten Aber jobs lost as trade slumps

ABERYSTWYTH suffered a “double whammy” this week, after it was revealed that two long-established businesses are to close.

The news has sparked fears that the recession may only now be hitting businesses in the town.

The National Milk Bar, which has been in the town since the 1950s, and Ambassadors, based in the town for 13 years, will close their doors at the beginning of October, leaving between them 10 staff out of work.

Bob Davis, the owner of Ambassadors which is at the end of Terrace Road near the seafront, said a combination of high rent and rates, along with a sharp drop in footfall, has left him no alternative but to close.
