Lawyers who halted Runway 3 now fight school closure

A COMMUNITY group fighting to save a school from closure in Meirionnydd has secured help from the legal firm responsible for halting plans for a third runway at Heathrow.

Friends of the Children of Llwyngwril (FOTCOL) have sent Gwynedd Council a letter warning they are prepared to take education chiefs to court if it proceeds with its proposals to close Ysgol Llwyngwril.

The group is prepared to fund the legal action itself, but hope to get a boost from fund-raising.

Gwynedd Council agreed in December to close four primary schools in the Tywyn catchment area by 2013-14 as part of a money-saving scheme, and to replace the schools with a new £5m area school for 70 pupils.
