Plucky Pete gets medal for Rose

A MAN who was told he’d never walk again has defied medical science and completed this year’s Race the Train.

Pete Cook, from Arthog, was left paralysed 12 years ago after a climbing accident, but on Saturday, he took seven hours to win a race medal he promised his youngest daughter.

As a keen runner, he had twice competed in Tywyn Rotary’s Race the Train run and given his medals to his two daughters at the time, Amy and Bethany.

But he was tragically left paralysed four months before the birth of Rose.

Earlier this year, he had made the request to race organisers to ask for permission to enter Race the Train 2010 with a view to finally obtaining Rose’s medal.
