Will town keep its head?

26 August 2010

A GIANT sculpted head which mysteriously appeared on Barmouth breach has become so popular with locals and tourists that it now has two Facebook fan pages in its honour, with fans asking for the sculpture to be kept in the dunes.

The fate of the sculpture, which has been named Kiki Dum Dum, has not yet been decided, but locals and holiday-makers are desperate to see the giant head become a permanent figure.

The three-foot solid wood sculpture – similar to the famous maoi statues on Easter Island in the Pacific - appeared in July and has drawn lots of attention. Crowds have gathered to ponder over the sculpture’s origin and how it got to be in the sand dunes.

Hundreds of people have been to visit the maoi and have their picture taken with it, and now the sites are an opportunity for people to share their pictures of them with the maoi and show their love for the sculpture.
