Tests on Minke whale washed up on beach

TESTS are being carried out on the body of a Minke whale that was found washed up on a remote beach by a holiday park.

The whale, measuring over 20ft, was discovered on Sunday morning in a small cove at Hafan y Môr near Pwllheli.

Park security staff raised the alarm and the area was secured by the council immediately.

A pathologist from London Zoo carried out a post-mortem examination on the male whale on Sunday evening and the whale was removed from the beach early Tuesday morning. Experts from Marine Strandings were also called and bacteria samples have been collected to be analysed.
