Llandysul traders say bypass has ruined business

04 November 2009

THE new Llandysul bypass has decimated businesses and reduced the town to a toilet stop, shop owners claimed this week.

The £16m road has cut off the town from travellers and left the main street empty, they said.

They added that rubble from the works still litters the area while roadmenders continue to dig up stretches of tarmac in the centre.

Traders have set up a new body to fight for their interests as the road impacts on their businesses.

Upholstery shop owner Hilary Vale said: “The bypass has been a complete disaster for us.

“Our former customers are just driving straight past Llandysul now. There is a sign on the new road saying ‘Llandysul services’ – and we all know what that means.

“The town is in danger of becoming just somewhere to stop for a pee on your way through.”
