'Disgusting' sex antics web page sparks fury
ABERYSTWYTH Town Council is taking legal action after its coat of arms was used on a “disgusting” Facebook page where people can write explicit and lewd stories about sexual encounters in the town.
The page called ‘Aberystwyth Confessions’ includes a number of posts referring to incidents that took place in student houses after high levels of alcohol.
It was set up earlier this month and is liked by over 2,300 people.
Town clerk Jim Griffiths said: “Aberystwyth Town Council, whose coat of arms appears on this page, is currently taking legal action against the site originator and wishes to make very clear that it totally disassociates itself from any action, comment or view expressed on these pages.”
A university spokesman posted a message on the site saying: “We are seriously concerned that the nature and tone of this site could lead to the exploitation of vulnerable young people. The behaviour described in these posts is highly offensive and, in places, clearly illegal.”
The official town council logo and the university’s name have now been removed from the page and the administrators have put a warning on the page regarding the content.
