Council tight-lipped over sale of office

ONE of Ceredigion Council’s unwanted Aberystwyth offices has been officially sold, but council bosses won’t yet tell taxpayers which office it is or how much it sold for.

The Cambrian News asked the council for details of the office sale after finance director Gwyn Jones confirmed in a special Cabinet meeting that a deal had been completed for one of the seven offices up for sale.

But a council spokesperson said they wouldn’t release any details about the sale of the office until members of the council’s Cabinet are informed first. The next meeting of the Cabinet is scheduled for 1 December.

The Cambrian News requested information on which office was sold, how much the office had sold for and any details about the buyer. However, a council spokesperson said: “Details of property transactions are made known to the elected representatives of the people of Ceredigion through written reports to the Ceredigion County Council Cabinet. The information naturally becomes accessible to the general public at the time.”
