Driver sustains serious injury
A DRIVER is in a critical condition after suffering serious injuries after crashing into a hedge bank on the A486 near Llandysul.
The motorist, who has not been named, was transferred to Cardiff’s Heath Hospital after first being taken to Glangwili Hospital after the smash at around 6.30pm on Saturday evening.
The injured man, who is believed to be local, had to be cut from his red Vauxhall Vectra by firefighters using specialist cutting gear.
Police are trying to trace the driver of another car that officers believe may have witnessed the smash.
A police spokesperson said: “At approximately 6.25pm a road traffic collision occurred on the A486 road between Croeslan and Bwlchygroes.
As a result of the collision the male driver of a red coloured Vauxhall motor car sustained serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to hospital.
“Police are keen to speak to the driver of a vehicle which was travelling towards Bwlchygroes at the time of the collision who may have witnessed the collision.
“The driver of that vehicle and any other witnesses are asked to contact PC 303 Jones or PS 146 Jones of the Mid Wales Roads Policing Unit at Aberystwyth Police Station on 101.”
A fire brigade spokesperson confirmed that a fire crew from Llandysul were called to the scene and used thermal imaging cameras and specialist cutting equipment to free the driver.
The spokesperson said: “One vehicle was involved in a road traffic collision.
“One male was trapped and the road was blocked. The fire crew had to release the driver using hydraulic cutting gear and they also used thermal imaging cameras.
“The fire brigade then made the vehicle safe.”
