Council secrecy over loss of Tolkien festival
MACHYNLLETH town councillors were desperate to discuss in private this week the loss of a festival to the town which was expected to bring in thousands of people to the area this summer.
The Cambrian News was excluded from a discussion at Monday night’s full council meeting into the matter - despite no grounds for confidentiality being raised.
However the discussion into the matter was promptly stopped by the Deputy Mayor Cllr Eric Hughes who said it should remain open.
But instead of discussing the matter which has outraged many local people there and then, councillors agreed to defer the discussion until next month, when town clerk John Parsons would be present to advise them.
Last week the Cambrian News revealed that the Festival in the Shire had changed venues, from Y Plas in Machynlleth, to Pafiliwn Bont in Pontrhydfendigaid, Ceredigion.
