Police investigate over parishoners' wills

24 February 2010

CHURCH-goers in a village near Aberaeron are in a state of shock after their local vicar was suddenly asked to stand down.

Mystery surrounds why well-respected and popular vicar Rev Christopher Bolton, of St David’s Church, Llanarth, was asked to step aside, but rumours are rife in the village that it is connected to money he has been left in the wills of elderly parishioners.

Church bosses confirmed that Rev Bolton (seen right) has temporarily stepped down from all responsibilities within the church following a request by the diocese Bishop while an investigation by Ceredigion Council’s Social Services departmen and the police takes place.

And although neither the Church nor Ceredigion Council’s social services department were willing to confirm the exact nature of the investigation, it is believed locally to be a matter regarding will bequests.
