Cambrian News and public banned from discussion on council agenda

24 February 2010

MACHYNLLETH Town Council banned members of the public and the Cambrian News from discussions on whether to withhold copies of the council’s agenda and minutes.

The council has been asked to consider withholding the information after a row sparked when the Cambrian News revealed that plans for a major Tolkien festival to be held at Y Plas had collapsed.

The council had considered whether to accept the request from Cllr Bob Dunn to not send out minutes and agendas in advance of meetings at its January meeting. However, when no decision was made that night, the issue was raised at the Februray meeting.

Clerk John Parsons told councillors he felt the discussion on agendas and minutes should be held in committee, and council members agreed.
