Accused of stealing £80,000

A BUILDER appeared in court this week accused of stealing £80,000 from an 88-year-old Pwllheli woman between January 2004 and last July.

John Leslie Davies, 65, of Pant Gwyn, Waunfawr, Caernarfon, and Rhian Jones, 48, of the same address, are charged with concealing criminal property - £40,000 - by placing cash in various locations including a freezer, cutlery drawer and cushions.

Davies also faces four allegations of fraud at Abergele by claiming that he carried out building work worth more than £11,000, and has a count of stealing tools and gardening equipment at Bodelwyddan.

The pair indicated not guilty pleas. District judge Andrew Shaw at Prestatyn directed that they should stand trial before a crown court and were bailed until 19 April.
