Flagging up Port as a tourist-friendly town

25 February 2010

TRADERS in Porthmadog will soon be flying the flag to help battle the recession.

Up to 100 businesses in the town will be flying the Welsh flag, ready for the Easter holidays, as part of the Porthmadog Chamber of Trade and Commerce’s efforts to brighten up the town.

Louis Naudi, from the Chamber of Trade, said that the “traditional flags” initiative is designed to have both an immediate visual impact on the eye and a lasting effect on the minds of townsfolk, businesspeople and visitors alike.

Flags will fly from premises in High Street, Snowdon Street, Bank Place and at the Ffestiniog Railway, wherever owners are willing to join the scheme for a one-off payment of £15. The chamber has used most of a £4,000 grant from Gwynedd Council’s town-centre promotion scheme to buy up to 100 flags, plus mounting poles and brackets, and will pay for installation.
