Protests as direct rail plan is rejected

A DECISION by rail regulators to turn down an Arriva Trains Wales application to run a direct service from Aberystwyth and Machynlleth to London has been condemned as “short-sighted”.

ATW see their proposed direct train service from Aberystwyth to Marylebone Station, London, as a potential boost to both the local economy and tourism.

But the Office of Rail Regulation this week announced its decision to reject the ATW application, which had been supported by the Welsh Assembly Government, to run twice-daily direct services, each way, between Aberystwyth and London Marylebone.
