Ford to close permanently

A LLANRHYSTUD ford will be closed permanently with highways chiefs saying it’s unsafe and too expensive to keep open.

The ford, which enables cars to cut off a corner linking the B4337 with the A487, is currently closed for the winter period, but Ceredigion Council’s highways department applied to magistrates to close it permanently saying it isn’t needed as an alternative route is available. And despite criticism from local residents and the Campaign for the Protection of Rural Wales, magistrates backed the closure.

Richard Marx, representing the council, said the highways department had concerns over the safety of the crossing after heavy rainfall.

He said that barriers at the ford are closed during winter months. The weather is monitored also to see if the barriers need to be closed.
