Air range future is in the balance

THE future of Aberporth’s air range is back in the balance after calls for a centre of excellence for the testing of unmanned drones to be based in Scotland.

The range is used by Qinetiq and the Ministry of Defence and has been earmarked as the best-equipped range in Britain for testing unmanned drones in the future.

But that decision is now under threat, with the Secretary of State for Scotland lobbying for a range in Scotland to be given priority.

Council leader Keith Evans reacted angrily to the news, which he said had left “a sour taste” in his mouth.
