Council tax to rise 3.9%
GWYNEDD councillors have voted to increase council tax for 2010/11 by 3.9 per cent, the equivalent of a 69 pence per week increase for those living in an average Band D household.
Gwynedd Council leader Cllr Dyfed Edwards said: “As a council, we have once again had to strike a fine balance between protecting essential services, keeping the council tax increase to an absolute minimum and delivering the same level of service or more with less money, as well as delivering a £16 million programme of savings between 2010 and 2013.
“Despite this extremely challenging situation, we have reinforced our commitment to protecting Gwynedd’s most vulnerable people.
“This is why we have decided to actually increase our Social Services budget by 2.77 per cent and the education budget by 2.35 per cent in 2010/11, whilst the 10 other council services must face an overall reduction of over four per cent in their budgets.”
