Blow to youth centre plan for donated cash

PLANS to turn a dilapidated building in Lampeter into a thriving youth centre using cash left to the town in an anonymous bequest are now in jeopardy after the building was deemed “not fit for purpose” by Ceredigion County Council.

Town councillors agreed at a meeting in February that £11,500 left to them by a benefactor in 2005 would be used to renovate a dilapidated building off Peterwell Terrace for the use of the town’s youth club.

But Ceredigion County Council, which owns the building behind the old secondary school technology block, has this month deemed the project unsustainable, with claims that it would be more economically viable to have the building demolished and rebuilt.
