Don't play Russian Roulette with mussels

VILLAGERS are being warned about picking and eating mussels off Aberdyfi beach which are still classified as unfit to eat, even though professional pickers descended there last week.

Experts are warning that the mussels are a “classified C grade”, meaning that they are poisonous to humans unless they are processed correctly by professionals.

They fear locals will have seen the mussel pickers last weekend and assumed that they were fit to eat, which they say could result in somebody falling ill.

Gill Reacord, from Gill’s Plaice fishmongers, said she was also concerned that locals were unintentionally “playing a game of Russian Roulette”, as a bad batch will lead to food poisoning.
