Council to be billed for 'gate surveillance'

CASH-STRAPPED Ceredigion Council could be forced to pay for Network Rail staff to watch Llandre residents use a gated level crossing.

Around 30 homes and businesses are having to use the level crossing after a loop road from the B4353 was closed while safety work takes place on an embankment.

But Network Rail has ruled that those residents need to be watched to make sure they’re “using the crossing correctly”. And that has meant two Network Rail employees sitting in a car nearby watching people use the crossing.

Local councillor Ray Quant said he had been told that Network Rail was expecting Ceredigion Council to pick up the bill as the council has closed the loop road for work on the embankment.
