River death is second tragedy at same spot

09 June 2010

A MAN who drowned in a river near Machynlleth after diving in to save his daughter’s life is the second person to drown at the same spot in less than a year.

Philip Jack, 45, who had represented his county in swimming competitions, got into difficulties in the river Dulas on Saturday and died at the scene near Plas Llwyngwern Caravan Park which is close to the Centre for Alternative Technology.

He had courageously dived in to save his youngest daughter Amy after she fell in trying to get the family’s dog out of the water at Pantperthog.

Just 10 months earlier, the same beauty spot claimed the life of 44-year-old Northhamptonshire city trader Oliver Ashby Johnson.
