Man makes history with booze ban ASBO

A HOMELESS man has been given an ASBO banning him from drinking at every pub and in all public places in Ceredigion - the first ever such order in the county.

Gary William Cooper, who gave his address to Aberystwyth magistrates as the night shelter in Cambrian Street, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct at Kentucky Fried Chicken in Aberystwyth.

The 48-year-old had been bailed to appear at Aberystwyth Magistrates Court on 2 June, but failed to appear. He also pleaded guilty to failing to answer bail.

But after jailing Cooper for two weeks for the bail act offence, magistrates then decided to impose an ASBO on him to stop him drinking at all pubs and in all public places and banning him from being drunk in public.

There is also an ASBO condition to not verbally abuse or intimidate members of the public.
