Dai's charity jump brings him back to earth with a bang

09 June 2010

A CHARITY parachute jump ended painfully for a retired Aberystwyth man after he broke his ankle on landing - leaving him having to use crutches for three months.

Dai James, 65, was taking part in the jump along with staff from the Nag’s Head pub in Aberystwyth, for Cancer Research UK.

“I didn’t manage to get my legs up high enough on landing, and caught my toe on the ground,” said Dai.

“They took me by Air Ambulance to Morriston Hospital, nearby - I wasn’t expecting to be back in the air so soon after jumping out of a plane!”

On arrival at Morriston Hospital, Dai was met by between 15 and 20 people from the trauma unit, waltho’d been told

“I think they were expecting all blood and guts, but they got me in a wheelchair and a harlequin jumpsuit!"
