Trio arrested after Gypsies targeted

THREE men have been arrested after allegations they targeted a Gypsy family staying in Machynlleth.

The men, who have not been named, were arrested on suspicion of racially-aggravated criminal damage and burglary after a caravan and truck were allegedly damaged and generators stolen from the family who were camping on common ground at Felin Gerrig last Wednesday. Police have said they are treating the alleged incident as a hate crime.

A police spokesman said: “The repeat criminal damage incident, which took place on the Felin Gerrig site between 2.30am and 6.30am on Wednesday 9 June was a sustained and unprovoked attack.

“In total, a caravan and a window of a Ford Transit pick-up was damaged. In addition, two red Honda 1.5 KVA generators were unplugged while running, and stolen from the site.
