Bronze bust honour for community saviour 'Keib'

21 July 2010

A FORMER New Quay man - whose brother is a well-known retired Aberystwyth policeman - has had a bronze bust unveiled in a London park, in recognition of his work to improve the lives of disadvantaged people living in the inner city.

John Thomas died in 2007, aged 60. Origially from Cylch-y-Llan, he was the son of the late Griff and Pearl Thomas, and brother to David, Richard, and the late Bethan. David is known as “Dai Dogs” in Aberystwyth, where he was a police officer for many years.

In New Quay he picked up the nickname “Ceibwr” after a scything tackle on a footballing opponent. This was shortened to “Keib”, the name by which he became known in many inner city London communities which he served.
