Protestors pledge to fight on despite school vote setback

PROTESTERS have pledged to carry on trying to save Ysgol y Parc after Gwynedd councillors voted to close the school – despite massive protests from children and parents.

An 80-strong protest gathered outside the full council meeting in Caernarfon on Thursday, opposing the plans to close the school.

Pupils, parents, teachers and villagers were joined by members of Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg, and they had trekked 70 miles from Tryweryn to Caernarfon over five days.

But despite their protest, councillors voted by a slim majority – 35 to 28 - to close the Welsh-medium school.
