Crunch talks for 140 staff as factory is sold

28 July 2010

STAFF at Rachel’s Dairy in Aberystwyth will hold crunch talks today with new bosses after the company was bought by French dairy giants, Lactalis, for an estimated £30 million.

Initial indications suggest that production will remain at the Glan yr Afon site for the forseeable future.

With around 140 staff employed there, Rachel’s has been the centre of speculation since the end of May, when it was reported that its American owner, Dean Foods, was to put the company up for sale.

Although ownership will officially pass to subsidiary company B.S.A. International, Rachel’s will become part of Groupe Lactalis, the third largest dairy group in the world.
