3-month road closure would 'kill the town'
ANGRY traders in Tremadog fear their livelihoods will be put in jeopardy if the road connecting them with Porthmadog is closed for three months.
Shop-owners and businesspeople say that if the Assembly goes ahead with plans to close the A487 between the town and Porthmadog for three months, while work is carried out on the bypass, their trade will seriously suffer.
The businesses which could be affected have now sent a letter to the Transport Minister at the Welsh Assembly Government, Ieuan Wyn Jones, and to both chief executives of Balfour Beatty plc and Jones Bros Co Ltd, the construction partnership in charge of the bypass, stating their anger and concerns at the effect the closure of the road will have on their businesses.
If given the go-ahead, the A487 road between Tremadog an Porthmadog could be closed for three months between 6 September and 6 December this year.
