Abi, 18, scales Mount Kenya

A LLANBEDR girl has become the youngest Welsh person in history to conquer the summit of Mount Kenya.

Eighteen-year-old Abi Newbould is also one of the youngest people in the world to ever climb to the highest peak, Batian, which stands at over 17,000 feet.

The mountain took Abi just six days to climb – a three-day hike towards the summit, a full day climbing and abseiling the highest peak and the trek back down.

She has just returned from her gap year in Kenya, where she had been working at a school, and decided to do the climb before she left.
