'Public must get onboard plan to reopen station'

11 August 2010

PLANS to reopen Bow Street railway station, closed over 40 years ago, have been welcomed by communities neighbouring the village.

A meeting of representatives of local community councils and consultants was arranged by Trafnidiaeth Canolbarth Cymru (TraCC), a group working with councils on transport issues, last month.

And long-standing environmental campaigner Lorraine Hill, of Llandre, wants the proposals to go a step further, by including a “request stop” station in the village as part of the plan.

Following a TraCC rail study in April, an appraisal of the Bow Street proposal is being undertaken. The proposal supports both the Aberystwyth Strategic Regeneration Area and Sustainable Travel Centre projects. And the Welsh Assembly Government’s National Transport Plan commits to an hourly daytime rail service between Aberystwyth and Shrewsbury by 2011.
