Council blamed for school with no pupils
BLAME for a pupil-less village primary school having to remain open for potentially move a year at a cost of £110,000 has been placed entirely with Carmarthenshire County Council.
The council must keep the now-empty Capel Iwan school open for up to a year at a cost of £110,000 despite no pupils being due to enrol in September.
The last remaining pupils left the school at the end of the summer term.
Sian Thomas, the headteacher, will remain at the school until December but will be transferred by the council to other duties.
A caretaker will continue to be employed and the school’s governing body will remain in place until the school is formally closed.
