Landlords' concern over flats for 'vibrant area'

PUB landlords in Aberystwyth fear their businesses could suffer if plans to turn a derelict town centre building into flats get the go-ahead.

But criticism of allowing the Old Sales Room at Maes Iago to be converted into eight flats has been dismissed by senior planner John Evans, who said anybody who moved into the flats couldn’t complain about noise from nearby pubs and drinkers because they “will know what they are letting themselves in for”.

The plans would see the empty, run-down building renovated and converted into eight flats.

The development will be approved if the planning department can strike a deal with the developer over the layout of the flats after eight councillors voted in favour of the conversion. Six members of the planning committee opposed the plan.
