Former health chief hits out at secret hospital plans

THE former chairman of Ceredigion Community Health Council has demanded assurances that Bronglais Hospital won’t be downgraded or lose emergency services.

Jack Evershed said he was concerned at the leaked report from Hywel Dda Health Board which recommended downgrading Bronglais from a district general hospital to a rural general hospital and removing services to centralise them at Carmarthen.

He compared it to the controversial Designed to Deliver document that sparked protests four years ago.

And Mr Evershed cast doubt on health board claims that the Rural Health Services Strategy Spend to Save Plan was meant only to win funding from the Welsh Assembly Government.
