Grieving dad's tribute to rail-death son 10 years on

18 August 2010

THE father of a 24-year-old killed at a train crossing in Porthmadog, will be holding a special service at the crossing this autumn to mark the 10th anniversary of the tragedy.

Andrew Deakin, known as Deaks to his friends, was killed at the Traeth Mawr crossing in 2000, when his car was hit by a train.

At the time of the accident, the crossing did not have a barrier, but after a campaign by Mr Deakin’s father, John, a barrier has since been installed.

And on the tenth anniversary of the tragedy, Mr Deakin plans to hold a commemoration servicealt at Andrew’s memorial, near to where the accident happened.
